Overview
Tungnath: A Journey to Divinity in the Himalayas
Nestled at 3,680 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas, Tungnath is the world’s highest Shiva temple and a jewel of the sacred Panch Kedar pilgrimage. This ancient shrine, steeped in Mahabharata legends, blends spirituality with breathtaking natural beauty.
The journey begins in Chopta, a picturesque valley known as the “Mini Switzerland of India.” A scenic 3.5-kilometer trek leads to the temple, surrounded by lush meadows, rhododendron forests, and stunning views of peaks like Nanda Devi and Chaukhamba. Tungnath’s intricately carved stone architecture reflects its timeless devotion, housing the arm (bahu) of Lord Shiva.
For adventurers, the trail extends to Chandrashila Peak (4,000 meters), offering awe-inspiring 360-degree views of the Himalayas, especially during sunrise and sunset.
Whether for spiritual peace, natural wonder, or adventure, Tungnath is more than a destination—it’s an unforgettable experience of divinity and majesty.
