Overview

A tour to the sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites of Kedarnath and Badrinath typically involves visiting two of the most revered temples in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Here’s a brief overview of what such a tour might entail:

  1. Kedarnath Temple:
    • Located in the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini River, Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
    • It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and holds immense significance for Hindu devotees.
    • The temple can be reached by a trek of approximately 16 kilometers from Gaurikund, or by helicopter services during the pilgrimage season.
    • The journey often includes picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and serene landscapes.
  2. Badrinath Temple:
    • Situated in the town of Badrinath in Chamoli district, Badrinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
    • It is one of the Char Dham (Four Abodes) pilgrimage sites and holds great religious importance for Hindus.
    • The temple is believed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
    • Pilgrims often take a dip in the Tapt Kund, a natural thermal spring near the temple, before proceeding for darshan (worship).
