How will you reach Matheran?

Traveling from Ahmedabad to Matheran is relatively straightforward, with multiple options available depending on your preference for convenience, budget, and time. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to reach Matheran from Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad/Vadodara/Surat to Mumbai

  1. Train

The most common way to reach Matheran from Ahmedabad is by train via Mumbai. There are several trains that run between Ahmedabad Junction and Mumbai 

  1. Bus

Several private and state-run buses operate between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The journey takes approximately 8-10 hours depending on the type of bus and traffic conditions. You can choose from sleeper, semi-sleeper, and Volvo buses.

  1. Flight

The fastest way to reach Mumbai from Ahmedabad is by flight. Several airlines operate daily flights between Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) in Ahmedabad and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai. 

Mumbai to Matheran by Taxi:

Taxi: You will be picked by cab/taxi from Mumbai to Dasturi Point, in Matheran which is the last point up to which vehicles are allowed. The taxi ride takes about 2-3 Hours from Mumbai. From Dasturi Point, you can either walk (around 2 km) or take a horse ride or hand-pulled rickshaw to reach Matheran.

Mumbai to Neral by Local Train

Once you reach Mumbai, you need to take a local train to Neral Junction (NRL) on the Central Line. Trains to Neral are frequent from Mumbai’s main railway stations (CSMT, Dadar, and Thane). The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Neral to Matheran

Toy Train: The Neral-Matheran toy train is a delightful way to reach Matheran. The toy train journey offers scenic views and takes about 2 hours to reach Matheran. Ensure to check the schedule and availability, especially during the monsoon season when services may be disrupted.

Schedule in Matheran 

(3 Days/2 Nights)

Day 1: Arrival and Sightseeing of Various Famous Points

Check in at Resort/Hotels. Get freshen up and take some rest.

You will be having Lunch. Then move for sightseeing.

  Major Points to Cover:

1. Echo Point

True to its name, Echo Point is where you can hear your voice bounce back from the surrounding hills. This spot is not just a natural acoustic wonder but also offers splendid views of the valleys and hills covered in dense forests. It’s a great place for some fun and to enjoy the tranquility of nature.

2. Charlotte Lake

Charlotte Lake is a serene spot ideal for picnics and leisurely walks. Surrounded by dense forests, the lake is the primary source of drinking water for the town. 

3. Pisharnath Mahadev Temple

This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the oldest structures in Matheran. Located near Charlotte Lake, the temple attracts both devotees and tourists who come to admire its spiritual ambiance and serene surroundings.

4. Lords Points

Lord Point provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. From this vantage point, you can see the rolling hills covered in lush greenery, deep valleys, and sometimes even the distant lights of Mumbai on a clear day.

After Sightseeing, You will move back to Resort.

Have Dinner and Night stay.

Day 2: Day for Peb Fort Trek

Wake up early and get ready for the trek.

About Trek:

Peb Fort gets its name from the local goddess Pebi Devi. It is also known as Vikatgad due to its shape resembling Lord Ganesha. The fort is situated at an altitude of approximately 2,100 feet above sea level and offers panoramic views of the surrounding Sahyadri range, Matheran, and the lush green valleys.

Total Trek Distance: 8-9 KM

Time Duration : 5-6 Hrs.

Back to Resort after the trek. Have lunch.

Evening free for Leisure Activities.

You can also enjoy the pool, indoor games or stroll around the markets for shopping and local food.

DJ and Garba 

Day 3: Departure from Matheran

After Breakfast, Check out from the Resort and move to Dasturi point (Parking)Or you can move to Matheran Station to catch the Toy train for Aman lodge station which is near to Parking (Ticket fare 50 rs). Taxi/Cab will take you to Mumbai. You will have around 2-3 hrs. to visit Mumbai at your own cost. You can opt for the Mumbai local train which will be convenient and budget friendly. Instructor will Guide you for the same.
